Why study Food Technology?food pyramid

 

Food technology enables students to combine designing and making skills with knowledge and understanding, in order to create quality products in the classroom. The course seeks to develop student's confidence in all aspects of preparation and making skills. This exciting subject allows students to be innovative and creative while enhancing their employment opportunities

 

Working in the Food Technology industry involves:

 

Students developing a range of skills which enable them to gain positions within food production plants as well as within laboratories or government organisations.  The food technologist or nutritionist may often work in areas of agriculture, as dairy technologists, in hospitals as diet supervisors and in many of hospitalities openings such as cooks, chef's, hotel motel managers and catering officers.  Some students take up careers in technical sales and marketing.

 

Samples of occupations students can aim for in the Food Technology industry:

Course description:

 

Food Technology has developed into a profession in its own right, Food Technology is the application of food science to the practical treatment of food materials for conversion to safe and acceptable products. Food Technology addresses the importance of hygiene and safe working practices and legislation in the production of food. Students will develop food-specific skills, which can then be applied in a range of contexts enabling students to produce quality food products. Food Technology provides students with a broad knowledge and understanding of food properties, processing, preparation, nutrition patterns and consumption patterns relative to all Australians.

This course continues the pattern of study for students who chose design and technology a beginners guide to Food Technology 100. Each topic will be explored in greater detail and extension activities will be included. in the 200 hour course

The qualifications possible from a study of the Food Technology course:

100 or 200 hour School Certification

Refunds: Students who exit the course before its completion may be eligible for a partial refund of fees. The amount of the refund will be pro-rata, dependent upon the time and resources the student has spent in the course.
