Welcome to the PDHPE Faculty Homepage

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) contributes significantly to the cognitive, social, emotional, physical and spiritual development of students.  It provides opportunities for students to learn about, and practise ways of, adopting and maintaining a healthy, productive and active life. It also involves students learning through movement experiences that are both challenging and enjoyable, and improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence in a variety of contexts. It promotes the value of physical activity in their lives.

Althletics Carnival

Stage 4 (Year 7 & 8)

PDHPE is a compulsory subject all students in Stage 4 at Wadalba Community School and must participate in all activities. PDHPE consists of 3 practical lessons and 2 theory lessons. Throughout Stage 4 students will explore a range of topics and activities, these will range from Personal Identity and Initiative games to Health Benefits of Physical Activity and Australian Sports.

Throughout Stage 4 students will be assessed on a range of outcomes. To find out what a student will be learning and when use relevant year group tab to find out more information.

Althletics Carnival

Stage 5 (Year 9 & 10)

PDHPE is a compulsory subject all students in Stage 5 at Wadalba Community School and must participate in all activities. PDHPE consists of 2 practical lessons and 2 theory lessons for year 9 and 3 practical lessons and 2 theory lessons for year 10. Throughout Stage 5 students will explore a range of topics and activities, these will range from Personal Training and Team Physical Activities to Drivers Education and Lifelong Physical Activity.

Physical Activity and Sports Studies (PASS) is an optional subject student can choose to study during Stage 5. This subject is aimed at students who enjoy the physical aspects of PDHPE. There will be more opportunities for students to take part in a range of roles that comes with sport, for example students will be given opportunities to coach, manage and officiate in sports.  There are theoretical elements to the PASS course and students will be assessed on these.

Stage 6 (Year 11 & 12)

Personal, Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) is an optional subject in Stage 6 at Wadalba Community School. Students will have 7 and ½ hour per fortnight. This is a theoretical unit and has no practical elements.

The year 11 course examines a range of areas that underpin health and physical activity. This includes how people think about health and physical activity, the management of personal health and the basis for how the body moves. Students have the opportunity to select from a range of practical options in areas such as first aid, outdoor recreation, composing and performing, and fitness choices.

In the HSC course, students focus on major issues related to Australia's health status. They also look at factors that affect physical performance. They undertake optional study from a range of choices. This includes investigating the health of young people or of groups experiencing health inequities. In other options, students focus on improved performance and safe participation by learning about advanced approaches to training or sports medicine concepts. There is also an opportunity to think critically about the factors that impact on sport and physical activity in Australian society.

Community and Family Studies (CAFS) is an optional subject in Stage 6 at Wadalba Community School. Students will have 7 and ½ hour per fortnight. This is a theoretical unit and has no practical elements

CAFS Stage 6 syllabus is designed to develop in each student an understanding of the diverse nature and interdependence of families and communities within Australian society. The course enables students to plan and manage resources effectively in order to address contemporary issues facing families and communities.

Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation (SLR) is an optional subject in Stage 6 at Wadalba Community School. Students will have 7 and ½ hour per fortnight. This is a theoretical unit and practical subject.

SLR students learn about the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle and recognise the need to be responsible and informed decision-makers. This course enables students to further develop their understanding of and competence in a range of sport and recreational pursuits. They are encouraged to establish a lifelong commitment to being physically active and to achieving movement potential.
