Course description:
The aim of Design and Technology is to engage students in technological innovation and the world of design while exploring the impact on individuals, society and environments. The development of functional and aesthetic design solutions allows students to be innovative and creative in their thinking and application. Students will develop the skills necessary for the safe use and maintenance of a variety of technologies in the production of their design projects. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are vital tools for this course. They are used to develop, communicate and research design solutions, communicate students' design ideas and facilitate interactions with the wider community.
Course Structure: Design and Technology (100 indicative hours)
- Design processes, theory and the work of designers.
- Skills in researching, experimenting, generating and communicating design.
- Safe use of materials, tools and techniques.
- Innovation and emerging technologies.
- Skills in quality management to complete projects.
The qualifications possible from a study of the Design and Technology course:
Students will develop knowledge, appreciation and applied skills for understanding the interrelationships of design, technology, society, the individual and the environment for an increasingly knowledge-based economy and lifestyle.
