Bush Tucker Garden

At Wadalba Community School, our Bush Tucker Garden is a vibrant and educational space dedicated to celebrating native Australian plants and the rich cultural heritage of Indigenous peoples. Developed with input from local community members and students, the garden showcases a diverse collection of bush tucker plant species that have been used for centuries for food, medicine, and connection to Country.

The garden features native species such as the grass tree, davidson plum andlemon myrtle, finger lime, warrigal greens, bush tomatoes, and midyim berry, each carefully selected for their traditional uses and local significance. Through interactive learning and hands-on experiences, students gain a deeper understanding of sustainability, biodiversity, and Aboriginal culture. Our Bush Tucker Garden is a living classroom—a space for discovery, respect, and appreciation of the unique flora that shapes our Australian landscape.

We pay our respects to the Elders both past, present and future for they hold the memories, the culture, the traditions and hopes of Aboriginal Australia.
