Primary at Wadalba Community School

At Wadalba Community School, we are dedicated to nurturing curious minds and inspiring a lifelong love of learning. Our vibrant and inclusive community provides a safe, supportive environment where every child can grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

We believe in fostering creativity, resilience, and respect, ensuring each student feels valued and empowered to reach their full potential. Our passionate teachers and staff work closely with families to create a meaningful and engaging learning experience.

Our students are engaged in all of the key learning areas whilst at school with the added benefit of being able to use many resources that are unavailable to most primary schools, with access to computer labs and laptop stations, an agricultural farm, hospitality kitchens, science labs, a recording studio, art studios, sporting facilities, a fully equipped gym, an extensive library, many practical learning spaces and the expertise of our high school colleagues. The teachers in our primary school are able to offer a wide variety of exciting and engaging experiences. We strive to provide opportunities for students to develop and enhance their abilities and interests in all areas, academic, sporting and cultural.

Who to contact

Contacting Staff

From time to time parents may need to contact the school in order to:

  • discuss the progress or welfare of their child
  • express concerns about actions of another student
  • enquire about school policy or practice
  • seek information about the actions of a member of staff

It is necessary to have procedures in place that will help to solve problems as soon as possible.

The following guidelines aim to:

  • provide a guide in order that concerns are dealt with in an open and fair manner
  • ensure that the rights of students, teachers and parents are respected and upheld
  • support sensitivity and confidentiality
  • help reach an agreed solution
  • address emergent issues within a realistic timeframe

Concerns and Appropriate Actions

The academic progress of own child:

  • Contact the child's teacher either by note, by phone or in person to arrange a mutually suitable time to discuss the issues. (Teachers are unavailable once the morning bell has rung and students are entering classes.)

The welfare of own child:

  • For minor issues directly contact your child's teacher to clarify information
  • For more serious concerns, contact the school's office. State the nature of the concern and arrange a mutually suitable time to talk with the class teacher or an appropriate staff member.
  • When informing the school about a change of address, telephone number, emergency contact, custody details, health issues etc. please contact the school office.

Actions of other students:

  • Contact the class teacher for a classroom problem.
  • Contact an assistant principal or deputy principal for playground problems.

School policy or practice

  • Contact the school's office. State the nature of the concern and make a mutually convenient appointment to see the principal, deputy principal and/or appropriate member of staff.

Actions of a staff member

  • Contact the office and state concerns to a member of the school executive or principal.
  • Arrange to meet directly with the principal and if appropriate, the staff member concerned.

The home/school relationships nurtured and expected within the Wadalba Community School community are respectful, professional and mutually supportive. If a situation becomes unacceptable and aggressive, threatening or if violent behaviours become apparent, the principal (or nominee) has the legal authority under the ‘Inclosed Lands Act' to:

  • direct the person to immediately leave the grounds
  • call the police to remove the person should he/she refuse
  • withdraw future permission (by letter) for the person to enter the grounds without permission of the principal
  • seek further legal avenues

N.B. It is never appropriate for any parent to directly approach another person's child while at school to discuss a concern. Every child has the right to feel safe and protected at school.
